NORZAGARAY, Bulacan – Volunteer workers of the provincial government of Bulacan shrugged off the hot weather, and punishing mountain trails to bring food packs for the Dumagat tribe which have been severely affected by the lockdown being imposed due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis.

Governor Daniel R. Fernando instructed the volunteer employees of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) to reach out to the Dumagat tribes in the mountain areas of the province, namely in Dona Remedios Trinidad town and the City of San Jose del Monte.

The distribution of relief packs for the Dumagats will last until Sunday, March 29.

The initial group of Dumagats tribe that was reached by the PSWDO volunteers lauded Fernando, Vice Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and the Bulacan PSWDO, headed by Rowena Joson-Tiongson, for not forgetting about them, and for not minding the distance just to get the food packs to them in the mountains.

Last Wednesday, 50 sacks of rice each were distributed to 21 municipalities and three cities of Bulacan, while the distribution of the five cavans each for the 569 barangays was started on Thursday that will be continued, Friday.
