Senator Aquilino Martin “Koko” Pimentel has been urged to resign for the breach of government measures against the spread of the deadly 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Former Solicitor General Florin Hilbay made the call in his Twitter account concerning the incident at the Makati Medical Center (MMC).
Hilbay said the lawmaker should first apologize to everyone he wronged.
“Apologize to the health care workers you endangered & promise to compensate them. Apologize to all health care workers. Apologize to people who won’t get medical services bec the staff you endangered now have to be quarantined. Apologize to the nation,” Hilbay said.
“Then, resign,” said the former solicitor general.
Hilbay appealed to the public not to make any threats against Pimentel and his family.
“Demand political and criminal accountability, criticize, even mock Sen. Koko Pimentel. But don’t wish him or his wife or their child any harm,” he said.
“Same goes for the politicians we don’t like or even hate,” Hilbay also urged.
“We must retain our humanity in the midst of anger,” he said.
Last Tuesday night, March 24, Pimentel accompanied his pregnant wife to the hospital even though he was supposed to be under self-quarantine at that time since he was considered a person under investigation (PUI). He later tested positive for COVID-19.
