ILOILO CITY—Mayor Jerry Treñas of this city has dismissed rumors that he underwent testing for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) after allegedly having had contact with a person who tested positive for the viral disease.
“It is not true that I got tested and it’s not true that I had close contact with someone who is confirmed to have been positive,” said Treñas in a statement Thursday.
It was in response to a Facebook post first shared by the account of Cessa Bales that urged Ilonggos to pray for Treñas.
“If it’s true, I should have been the first one to tell all of you. I have been very straight forward,” Treñas added.
Bales’ Facebook post, which has since been deleted, attributed the alleged information about the status of the city mayor as coming from a radio show. But there was no such report from any station in Iloilo.
Bales sent Manila Bulletin a message via another account and claimed that her account with the controversial post had been hacked.
“I have changed my password a few times. I am a decent person and I don’t rant on social media. I’ve never even done that before,” Bales added.
