Penalties and jail time await owners of food establishments in Mandaluyong City caught offering dine-in, take-out, or drive-thru services despite the enhanced community quarantine, Mayor Carmelita Abalos said.

The local chief executive issued a notice that only food establishments with delivery services are being allowed to operate during the quarantine period.

According to her, this was in pursuant to the protocols of the heightened community quarantine being strictly implemented in the city due to the threat of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“Dine-in, take-out, and drive-thru services are prohibited,” Abalos said.

In its latest tally, Mandaluyong currently has 13 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 33 persons under investigation (PUIs) and 350 persons under monitoring (PUMs) for the disease.

Abalos warned those caught violating the protocols that they will be held liable under Republic Act 11332 or the “Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act” for not cooperating, which carries a fine of P20,000 to P50,000.

Violators might also face imprisonment of one month to six months.

Following the implementation of the quarantine, the government has prohibited the dine-in, take-out, and drive-thru services of food establishments in Metro Manila to limit the movement of people and to enforce social distancing.

As a way of helping its residents in need of food, the local government of Mandaluyong City has started the distribution of grocery packs.

Barangay officials and personnel were tasked to conduct door-to-door delivery of groceries to their constituents so they would not have to queue for their food rations.

To prevent the further spread of the disease, the Mandaluyong City government on Saturday has placed some areas in barangays Highway Hills and Mauway under “extreme community quarantine” due to COVID-19.
