LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – Two passengers died, while 15 others sustained injuries, in a road accident involving a passenger bus, jeepney, truck and tricycle in Albay province on Sunday.
Captain Dexter Panganiban, Albay Police Provincial Office (PPO) spokesperson identified the fatalities as Lea Paliangayan, 49, a teacher and resident of Guinobatan, Albay; and Nino Mula, 20, and a resident of Barangay San Roque here.
Panganiban said Paliangayan was a passenger of the jeepeney which was sideswiped by the speeding passenger bus in Sitio Bascaran in Barangay Libod, Camalig town at around 6 p.m., Sunday, February 23.
Pagliangayan died while being treated at the hospital.
Mula, on the other hand, died in a separate accident early Monday when the tricycle she was riding in collided with a truck.
Initial investigation disclosed that, in the case of Paliangayan, the passenger jeepney was traversing the highway from Guinobatan proper to Camalig town when a Raymund bus bumped the rear portion of the jeepney causing multiple injuries to its passengers.
Police report said that, according to the driver of the bus, he was about to overtake another vehicle traversing ahead of him but due to miscalculation he accidentally sideswiped the rear portion of the jeepney.
In the other accident, it was found that a truck, driven by Samuel Mabini, was trying to overtake a pickup when it collided with a tricycle driven by Louie Sodsod.
Thorough investigations are still being conducted while the involved drivers were still being treated at the hospital except for the driver of the truck who is now under the custody of Legazpi PNP.
