Rescue animals Lundy the puppy and Herman the pigeon instantly became best friends.
Lundy, a Chihuahua puppy, was brought to the shelter when he was four weeks old but can’t walk around, possibly because of a spinal injury. While Herman, a pigeon suffering from neurological damage, permanently lives at the shelter.
“Our main goal is to take in animals born with defects,” Rogers told People magazine.
According to Mia Foundation founder Sue Rogers, the two have become inseparable and are often caught cuddling together.
Sue said that they hope to get a wheelchair for the pup and find a family to adopt him.
“Lundy weighs only one pound now, so we will have to wait for the chair,” she added.
Mia Foundation was launched in 2012 to honor Rogers’ late dog Mia who was born with a cleft palate.
The New York-based rescue center has adopted out over 1,000 pets with birth defects over the years.
