DAVAO CITY – A city official here bared that the African Swine Fever (ASF) has already spread to another village adjacent to the affected barangays in Calinan district.

Dr. Cerelyn Pinili, City Veterinarian Office head, said they are closely monitoring all hog raisers within the one- kilometer radius of Barangays Dominga and Lamanan, which were the two previously identified barangays that tested positive for the ASF.

Pinili said blood samples taken from the area of Barangay Inayangan in Calinan last Tuesday were found positive of the virus.

“It tested positive for ASF, but it is an adjacent barangay, so still covered by the one-kilometer radius,” she said.

Pinili revealed that they took 22 random blood samples for testing by the Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (RADDL), but technical problems were encountered so they sent them to the Philippine Genome Center at the University of the Philippines in Mindanao.

Department of Agriculture XI regional director Ricardo Oñate said the positive result can be considered as official.

Noel Provido, chief of the Regional Agriculture and Fishery Information Section from the Department of Agriculture, said Davao is the only region in Mindanao with confirmed cases of ASF. Aside from Davao City, the municipalities of Jose Abad Santos, Malita, and Sulop also have cases of ASF.
