Police seized almost a million worth of marijuana in a raid in Bansud town of Oriental Mindoro, prompting local police to intensify intelligence for other possible plantation.
Lt. Col. Imelda Tolentino, spokesperson of the MIMAROPA (Mindoro Oriental and Occidental, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan) regional police, said the operation was conducted on Friday following intelligence reports of marijuana being cultivated in a remote area in Sitio Upper Lancawan in Barangay Conrazon.
At around 10 a.m. Friday, local police swooped down on the area and saw various marijuana plants.
“They were all uprooted,” said Tolentino, adding that the estimated value is at P980, 000.
Tolentino said all police units in the region were instructed to double their intelligence units in a move to prevent marijuana cultivation in the region.
The remote areas in Cordillera and nearby areas are known to be one of the major sources of marijuana, what with various raids that would result in the discovery of vast marijuana plantation.
While there are attempts to legalize marijuana for medical use, its use and possession are still prohibited.
