Sulu adopts measures to escape from poverty

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The government of Sulu is determined to adopt appropriate measures to uplift the living condition of the people in the province who have been trapped in poverty for decades.

Sulu Governor Abdusakur Tan said his government was seeking appropriate and effective measures that can uplift the living condition of most of the people in the province

Tan said that enhancing the capacity and technical skills of the Sulu agriculture and fisheries  sector, along with proper socio- infrastructure support program of the government will help them   escaped from property,

Tan said he intends to bring resurgence to the human resource capacity. The province will also be seeking tap its rich natural resources.

“We have plenty of raw materials in the province and the province is  rich in natural resource of aquamarine products, but lack the facilities and needed technical skills to process them,” he said.

The governor cited  the thriving Zamboanga City  Sardines Industry as proof of the rich resource  of the Sulu fishing area.

Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Director-General Isidro Lapeña was scheduled to visit Sulu yesterday, Wednesday   for the  signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between TESDA and the Sulu Provincial Government on technical skills training and assistance.

Accordingly, state colleges and universities (SUCs) in Sulu were among those included in the TESDA assistance.

It was reported that TESDA wants  to include Domestic Refrigeration Maintenance and Agriculture in the list of training programs  offered by the Sulu  Provincial Livelihood Training and Productivity Center (SPLTPC).
