President Duterte has designated Major General Allen Paredes the new commanding general of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) to replace Lt. Gen. Rozzano Briguez, who will reach the mandatory retirement age of 56 on Jan. 17.
The President signed Paredes’ appointment paper Wednesday, a day before the official turnover rites at the PAF headquarters in Pasay City. Duterte is expected to attend the change of command ceremony on Thursday afternoon.
“I wish to inform you that, per your letter-endorsement and in accordance with the recommendations of the Chief of Staff, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and Chairman, AFP Board of Generals, pursuant to Republic Act No. 8186, the designation of MAJOR GENERAL ALLEN T PAREDES o-9850 ARMED FORCES OF THE PHILIPPINES as Commanding General, Philippine Air Force, vice LTGEN ROZZANO D BRIGUEZ O-9474 is hereby APPROVED effective January 17, 2020,” the President’s letter to Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana reads.
Lorenzana released a copy of the document to the media.
Prior to his appointment, Paredes served as commander of the Air Logistics Command. He is a member of the Philippine Military Academy Maringal Class of 1988.
