Iloilo City—The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-6) led Thursday the destruction of P 8.8 million worth of illegal and expired drugs from across the Western Visayas region.
PDEA-6 Regional Director Alex Tablate told Manila Bulletin the illegal and expired drugs were burnt at a crematorium in this city, the regional capital.
Included in the destruction was P 7.1 million worth of shabu (crystal methamphetamine) and marijuana worth more than P79,000.
According to Tablate, most of the illegal drugs destroyed were already processed for court proceedings of drug cases while others were seized either by PDEA or units of the Philippine National Police (PNP) during anti-drug operations.
While most of the drugs destroyed were seized in 2017, there were also some seized last year and this year from Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental.
PDEA-6 also destroyed expired drugs surrendered by pharmaceutical companies and hospitals, in compliance with drug regulations.
Also present at the drug destruction were key officers of the Police Regional Office (PRO-6).
