CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – An American national died after drowning off the waters of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan last Saturday.

Lieutenant Colonel Imelda V. Tolentino, public information office chief of Police Regional Office-MIMAROPA (Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) identified the victim as Stephen D. Dewitt, 59, single, and a resident of 38 Manalo St., Puerto Princesa City.

Tolentino said the Puerto Princesa Police learned of the incident when it received a call from a certain Felmel Atienza informing them of a drowning incident in a beach resort at Sitio Pagkakaisa, Barangay Napsan, Puerto Princesa at 2 p.m. last December 7.

Initial investigation showed that prior to the incident, the victim, together with a friend, had a drinking session after which the victim decided to take a swim, but failed to return.

His companion looked and searched for him and found out that the victim drowned.

The body of the victim was brought to a hospital at the city proper where autopsy and post mortem examination was conducted.
