Rookie cop who shot his commanding officer in Agusan gunned down

Lawmen cornered and gunned down a rookie policeman who went into hiding after shooting his commanding officer in Agusan del Sur last week.

A report reaching Camp Crame in Quezon City identified the fatality as Patrolman Jhon Paul Gerida, assigned to the Agusan del Sur Provincial Mobile Force Company based in Bunawan town.

Gerida has been the subject of a manhunt since Friday after he shot his commanding officer, Policr Lt. Col. Rex Lomente in the head.

Lomente earlier summoned Gerida to his office in Friday but a few minutes later, a gunshot was heard from inside.

Gerida went into hiding while Lomente ia still fighting for his life in a hospital.

At around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, police tracker teams chanced upon Gerida in Barangay Consuelo in Bunawan town.

“Initial investigation revealed that the suspect fired his firearm towards the operating troops prompting them to retaliate against the suspect that resulted to his death,” the report read.

Seized from him was a .45 pistol.
