TACLOBAN City – The Police Regional Office 8 (PRO8) has shown resilience this week in the face of Typhoon “Tisoy’s” onslaught in the Eastern Visayas by holding its annual ceremonial lighting of Christmas decorations, lantern-making activity, and Adopt-a-Tree contest Thursday (Dec. 5).

Eastern Visayas Police Director Brig. Gen. Ferdinand Divina said that instead of buying new décor for their month-long Christmas celebration, PRO8 promoted the use of recyclable materials as part of their campaign against climate change.

Over 20 provincial, city, and national support units and Regional Mobile Force Battalions exhibited creativity in designing their Christmas lanterns and trees. The activities were capped with a grand fireworks display.

“I feel so elated having the opportunity to celebrate this with the men and women who, despite all the hurdles, still choose to continue and strive towards the culture of professionalism and excellence,” Divina said.

The PRO8 camp now looks like a Christmas village. Colorful Christmas lights are everywhere, as are trees decorated with lanterns and assorted ornaments made from recycled newspapers, plastic cups, bottles, and utensils, as well as used x-ray films, tires, and syringes.

Deputy Regional Director for Operations Col. Arthur Cabalona said they are planning to open the exhibit to the public for a few hours at night to share with them the impressive designs created by the participants.

Each office is also tasked to install their respective booths for the “Perya Games” along the camp’s 1st Street during their Christmas Party on Dec.17 for the entertainment of the child dependents of their personnel.

Meanwhile, their personnel are encouraged to attend the daily dawn Mass (Misa de Gallo) from Dec. 16 to 24 every 4:30 a.m.
