A 26-year-old carpenter, who was allegedly behind two robbery with homicide incidents in Quezon City in the past months, was killed in a shootout with the police who tried to arrest him.
Investigators of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) identified the slain suspect as Mark Anthony Ruviviar, alias “Mac-mac,” and a resident of Sapocoy Street in Barangay Manresa, Quezon City.
Probers of the QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) tagged Ruviviar as the suspect behind separate robbery incidents in Barangays Tandang Sora and Balingasa last October 30 and November 7, respectively, where two men died.
In a report from CIDU, the Ruviviar’s lair was found by an informant of the police through the composite sketch of the suspect as described by a witness.
At around 8:40 p.m., Monday, CIDU operatives immediately conducted a follow-up operation against the suspect which they saw standing in front of his house.
The officers approached Ruviviar and introduced themselves, however, instead of giving himself up, the suspect pulled out a handgun and opened fire at the policemen.
The cops, who were able to dodge the initial volley of shots, immediately retaliated, resulting in a gunfight. When the smoke cleared, Ruviviar was found shot in different parts of the body.
The suspect was rushed by the policemen to East Avenue Medical Center where he eventually died.
Recovered from the suspect were his caliber .38 revolver, a sachet of shabu, and P900 cash.
