The Diocese of Kalookan on Tuesday warned the public against a scam using the name of Bishop Pablo David.
According to the diocese, the people should not believe it if they receive a message purportedly coming from David asking for donations to replace an old tabernacle.
“Kung makatanggap po kayo ng PM sa FB Messenger na nanghihingi ng tulong o donasyon si Bishop Pablo Virgilio David para sa pagpapagawa ng tabernacle sa Cebu ito po ay walang katotohanan,” said the diocese in a Facebook post.
“Ang ginagamit na account ay fake account po,” it further read.
The diocese even posted a picture of the modus, which read as:
“Dear Friends. I’m trying to call to possibly ask help nasa Cebu kasi ako ngayon and I saw this tabernacle as replacement sa old one para sa Obispado. I plan to bring home with me so I’m trying to raise funds until Thursday para maiuwi ko sa Kalookan on Friday. I hope you can help me in this good cause.
I’m raising the amount of 50,000 but any amount will be of big help.”
In the past, other church leaders also warned the public against a similar modus using their name to ask money from people and Church institutions.
Among those who issued a warning were Tagbilaran, Bohol Bishop Alberto Uy and Cotabato Archbishop Emeritus Orlando Cardinal Quevedo.
