6,000 bd. ft. hot lumber seized in Bislig City

BUTUAN CITY – The all-out anti-illegal logging operation of the Bislig City Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has resulted again in the confiscation of 5,800.33 board feet of illegally-sawn Lauan lumbers that were hidden in a forested area of Sitio Tomoy Barangay San Antonio, Bislig City last week.

In a flash report sent to DENR 13 Regional Executive Director (RED) Felix S. Alicer and Surigao del Sur PENR Officer Achilles Anthony C. Ebron, CENR Officer Specialist Victor B. Sabornido said the seized forest products were being readied for delivery outside of the region.

The illegally-sawn lumbers were immediately secured with the help of the elements of the Army’s 75th Infantry Battalion and Bislig City Police Station, the Bislig City DENR-CENR officer said.

The confiscated lumbers were immediately transported and brought for safekeeping to San Roque Scaling Forest Products Monitoring Station under the protective custody of the personnel there while an investigation is being conducted.

“We are still verifying the owner of the seized forest products for us to file charges under PD 705, the Forestry Code of the Philippines,” CENR Officer Sabornido said.

Earlier, the Bislig City CENRO Anti-illegal Logging Task Force, in another hot pursuit operation, also seized a 10-wheeler truck loaded with 1,014 pieces/ 8,609 bd. ft of assorted sizes of mixed dipterocarp lumber and one 6-wheeler truck loaded with 432 pieces/ 4,283 bd. ft. of assorted sizes of mixed Dipterocarp lumbers.

The said apprehended forest products and trucks are now deposited with the 14th Special Action Force Company compound in Barangay Tagungon, Tagbina town of Surigao del Sur province.

Charges of PD 705 were already filed in court against the drivers, CENR Officer Sabornido added.

Meanwhile, a joint anti-illegal logging task force of Bislig City CENRO led by CENR Officer Sabornido and Bunawan, Agusan del Sur CENR Officer Jerome Albia confiscated 151 pieces /25.69 cubic meters assorted sizes of mixed dipterocarp logs at the hinterland area at Road 82, Sitio Tabagki, Barangay Tudela, Trento, Agusan del Sur recently.

The said operation was under the supervision of RED Alicer and PENR Officer Joey Concha of Agusan del Sur.
