Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents have arrested a suspected Italian pedophile in Davao City.
In a report to BI Commissioner Jaime Morente, BI Intelligence Chief Fortunato Manahan said Lorenzo Marchesi had been preying on Filipino minors in the south during his frequent visits to the country.
The 57-year-old suspect was arrested last November 8 at the Davao International Airport (DIA).
Manahan said Marchesi was about to board his flight when he was intercepted by intelligence agents.
He is currently detained at the BI holding facility in Davao City pending resolution of the criminal complaints that were lodged against him by his alleged victims.
According to BI intelligence officer and Mindanao Intelligence Task Group (MITG) head Melody Gonzales, Morente issued a mission order against Marchesi when reports were received about his illegal activities.
Gonzales bared that Marchesi was also a respondent in several criminal complaints filed with the Davao City prosecutor’s office and Philippine National Police’s (PNP) women and children’s protection desk.
The complaints range from an alleged violation of the expanded anti-trafficking act, cybercrime law, and anti-child abuse act.
He reportedly paid his victims in exchange for sex.
A check of the BI’s travel database showed that Marchesi has been coming in and out of the country since January this year via the international airports in Davao and Mactan, Cebu.
