A Chinese national tagged as the head of crime gang preying on other Chinese nationals was arrested by police on Friday.
Members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police identified the suspect as Sun Kai, 33.
According to Col. Roland Hipolito, head of the CIDG National Capital Region, Sun was known for preying on Chinese nationals.
Hipolito said he was involved in swindling and other heinous crimes not only in the Philippines but also in China.
Police said he allegedly led a crime gang named after him, “Sun Kai Criminal Group.” He was arrested during an entrapment operation by Manila CIDG in Malate on Friday at around 1:00 a.m.
He allegedly received P200,000 cash from a Chinese national who were threatened with kidnapping by Sun if he will not pay him.
Sun will be facing charges of robbery-extortion before the Manila Prosecutors Office.
