Maj. Jigger Gimeno, city police chief, said the baby was believed to be between five and six months old.

Gimeno said the baby was left by an unidentified person at the sugarcane field early that day.

Some civilians saw the baby at the roadside at past 5 p.m. and called for assistance from the police assigned at the border control security area, he added.

The baby was brought to the City Health Office to check the possible cause of his death.

He will be buried at the city’s public cemetery.

Gimeno said they have no idea yet who was responsible for abandoning the baby since no witnesses have surfaced and the area is also far from the residential area.
