The strong earthquake that hit some parts of Mindanao, Wednesday was a “warning” for people to change their evil ways, according to a Catholic prelate.
“The earthquake last night is a warning. Repent and change our evil deeds,” Ozamiz Archbishop Martin Jumoad said.
Jumoad said the Lord is reminding the people to change especially those who have become “materialistic and selfish.”
“Maybe, we have become more materialistic and selfish and the Lord reminds us to change our ways,” he said.
As an example, Jumoad lamented how people have destroyed the environment.
“Mother Earth groans and is in pain due to some irresponsible selfish persons destroying our mountains and polluting our rivers and seas,” he said.
Archbishop Jumoad said the earthquake that jolted Mindanao was indeed “too scary.”
“But every event serves as a reminder that we are not in control of everything. Someone great is the most powerful,” he said.
The magnitude-6.3 earthquake that hit North Cotabato and nearby areas left at least five people dead and several others injured across Mindanao.
On Thursday morning, a magnitude-5.3 tremor also struck Davao Oriental and proximate areas.
