A new school dormitory for graduate students will soon rise at the University of the Philippines in Los Baños, Laguna, implementing agency Department of Public Works and Highways recently announced.
Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar recently said that the construction of the new six-storey dormitory for graduate students of the University of the Philippines (UP) Los Baños is in full swing.
The P99-million building, according to DPWH-Region 4A Director Samson Hebra, can house approximately 200 students. It is equipped with multiple shared rooms, toilet and bathroom, student lounge, laundry room, pantry, and view deck.
The 800-square meter building located in an approximately 2,000-square meter lot will also be equipped with a bookstore, computer and reading room, exhibit gallery room, commercial stalls, fitness room, and security room to provide a comfortable residential space for the graduate students, Hebra added.
“Although we have been experiencing bad weather, construction of the new living quarters is right on track and is aimed for completion on May 2020 to provide students with safe, accessible, and convenient facilities,” Villar said.
The secretary furthered that the implementation of the school building, which started in March 2019, is one of the 20 projects being undertaken by the department in various campuses of UP through a memorandum of agreement with the university. The projects are funded under the General Appropriations Act.
