Commission on Human Rights Commissioner Gwendolyn Pimentel-Gana, daughter of the former senator, was reported Tuesday afternoon saying that the Pimentel patriarch is now recuperating after fluid was removed from his lungs.

Pimentel was brought to an undisclosed hospital in Metro Manila last Thursday after experiencing difficulty in breathing due to pneumonia, she said.

It was announced Monday night, October 14, that the 85-year-old statesman was in the intensive care unit of a hospital. His family, in a statement, said he was “very ill”.

They continued to appeal for prayers for the former Senate chief’s recovery.

Meanwhile, incumbent senators also prayed for Pimentel’s healing.

“I join many, especially his family, in fervent prayers for the early recovery of former Senate President Aquilino ‘Nene’ Pimentel Jr. who is reportedly very ill and in ICU,” detained Sen. Leila de Lima said in a dispatch Tuesday.

“We join our brothers and sisters in sending healing prayers to former Sen[ate] Pres[ident] Nene Pimentel Jr. We are one with the Filipino nation in praying for his complete healing and speedy recovery,” Sen. Joel Villanueva also said Tuesday.

Sen. Sonny Angara also offered prayers for Pimentel, who he described as “a great statesman.”
