BACOLOD CITY – The 89-year-old ancestral mansion of the Gustilo family in Hacienda Hortencia, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, was destroyed in a fire last Tuesday.
Fire Officer 3 Ranniel Basco, deputy city fire marshal, said the fire was called in past 8 a.m.
It started in the kitchen area of the house owned by Evangeline and Jomel Ramos.
Basco said no one was inside the house when the fire broke out, Jomel was in Bacolod while his wife sent their grandchildren to school.
The mansion, built in the 1930s, housed paintings and antique furniture.
A member of the city’s rescue team sustained minor injuries after he was hit by a hard object while trying to put out the fire.
Firefighters declared fire out after more than two hours. Damage was placed at P2 million.
Arson investigators were still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
