BACACAY, Albay – Twenty four passengers, including two motorcycle riders were hurt when a passenger jeepney loaded with at least 22 public school teachers lost its brakes and fell into 15-feet ravine in Bacacay town, Albay province on Monday morning.
Police Captain Dexter Panganiban, public information officer of Albay PPO said all the passengers onboard were injured and brought to different hospitals for treatment. Most of the passengers were public school teachers assigned to remote villages of Cagraray Island in Bacacay town.
The jeepney driver, identified as Roberto Bequio y Beruela, 55, a resident of Purok 4, Brgy. Cagbulacao, Bacacay town, Albay province, was holding an expired driver’s license. The jeep fell into a deep ravine while traversing the highway of Brgy. Cagbulacao, this town.
Initial investigation disclosed that the passenger jeepney was traversing the downhill portion of Brgy. Cagbulacao from Bacacay proper to Brgy. Cabasan when it lost its brakes, causing it to flip and fall into the 15 feet deep ravine.
Two motorcycle riders also sustained injuries when they tried to evade the speeding jeepney to avoid collision.
