Bomb joke sent delivery man to jail

A delivery man was placed behind bars after making a joke that the package he was transporting contained a bomb during an inspection at a hotel in Parañaque City on Friday.

The man was identified by police as Reynaldo Balisi, Jr., 30, resident of San Nicolas A2 Bacoor, Cavite. His arrest stemmed from the complaint of a security officer under the Bloomberg Resort and Hotel Inc.

Investigation showed that the incident occurred at around 3:50 p.m. at the Theater Driveway of Solaire Resort and Casino located along Aseana Ave., Brgy. Tambo, Parañaque City.

Police said that the security personnel were conducting their standard inspection of Balisi’s package at the driveway of the hotel.

During inspection, Balisi for unknown reason uttered, “May bomba dyan (There’s a bomb there,)” referring to the package he was delivering.

This resulted to his arrest upon the complaint of a representative from the Bloomberg Resort and Hotel Inc., the owner of the hotel.

He will be a facing charges in violation of Presidential Decree 1727 or the Anti-Bomb Joke Law. (Dhel Nazario)

Man shot dead by riding-in-tandem

A man who was walking to a friend’s wake was shot dead by two motorcycle-riding gunmen at Barangay Tangos in Navotas City Friday.

Colonel Rolando Balasabas, Navotas City police chief, identified the victim as Jessie Jimenez, 45, fisherman, resident of the area.

Investigation showed that Jimenez was walking to his friend’s wake at about 4:45 a.m. when two men onboard a motorcycle blocked his path.

They then peppered him with bullets before fleeing, which led to his instant death.

Balasabas said they have yet to establish a motive behind the killing.

Follow-up operation is ongoing for the identification and arrest of the assailants. (Minka Tiangco)

Octogenarian killed after being hit by trailer truck

An 84-year-old woman was killed after she was hit by a trailer truck while crossing Amang Rodriguez Avenue in Pasig City Friday.

Pasig police said victim Bella Gamboa was reportedly crossing the thoroughfare from the northbound lane to southbound at around 3:50 p.m.

According to a report, the Fuso tractor driven by 29-year-old Jetro Tuyor, struck the elder woman while crossing the southbound lane of the avenue.

Police said the victim was run over by the truck’s left front wheel.

Gamboa was rushed to Pasig City General Hospital but she was pronounced dead by attending physician over an hour later.

Tuyor is now detained at Pasig City Police custodial facility facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide. (Jhon Casinas)
