Ex-Pangasinan Gov. Amado Espino wounded in ambush, two security escorts killed

Former Pangasinan Governor Amado ‘Ama’ Espino Jr. was seriously wounded while his two bodyguards were killed in an ambush staged by unidentified gunmen in Barangay Magtaking in San Carlos City, Pangasinan at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Brig. Gen. Joel Orduna, director of the Ilocos Region police, said Espino was rushed to a hospital after the incident.

“The attackers were on board a vehicle. I have already ordered a massive pursuit operations against the perpetrators,” Orduna told the Manila Bulletin in a phone interview.

“We deployed our men in all possible escape routes” he added.

Espino, who is also a former congressman of the 5th District of Pangasinan, was on board a Sports Utility Vehicle escorted by two other vehicles believed to be his security escorts. (with a report from Liezle Basa Inigo)
