The Philippine National Police (PNP) will deploy an all-female platoon of traffic constables in EDSA.
In an interview with CNN Philippines, PNP Spokesperson, Senior Supt. Bernard Banac, said starting Monday, Sept. 9, the PNP Highway Patrol group will be deploying some of its personnel to help the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) man the traffic along EDSA.
“We have prepared an all-female traffic patrol to help us maintain order and discipline along EDSA. We are ready to assist the MMDA,” Banac said.
Banac said the PNP wanted to deploy an all-female platoon to promote gender equality.
“Having all-female traffic patrollers deployed along EDSA, we believe, can help us maintain order and more traffic discipline. Filipinos are very respectful of our women. We hope the drivers would exercise good conduct,” Banac said.
“At the same time, we like to send a message to all our rogue drivers along EDSA especially those drivers of the buses to be conscious of their conduct because female [troopers] are manning the traffic along EDSA, so they should be very respectful and obey the traffic rules,” he added.
Banac said all those who will be deployed to EDSA underwent specific training and were made aware of the traffic rules being implemented by the MMDA.
