Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti on Sunday vowed to organize the Filipino-American community in Los Angeles to gather support for Robredo’s Angat Buhay program.
Angat Buhay, the flagship program of the vice president, seeks to alleviate the lives of those at the fringes of the society.
On Sunday, the vice president mentioned her program to Garcetti during their meeting with the Filipino-American appointees of the Los Angeles mayor. Robredo is out of the country because she was invited to give a speech at the 13th Toronto Global Forum in Canada.
“Nabanggit rin natin ang programa nating Angat Buhay, na naglalayong tulungan ang mga pinaka nangangailangan nating kababayan. Masaya tayo na bukas si Mayor Garcetti na makiisa sa ating adbokasiya, at nangako itong oorganisahin ang Fil-Am community sa LA upang makalikom ng suporta para sa ating mga proyekto (I mentioned to him our Angat Buhay program, which aims to alleviate the lives of our countrymen at the fringes of the society. We are happy that Mayor Garcetti is open in helping our advocacy, and he promised to organize the Filipino-American community in LA to gather support for our project),” Robredo said in her post on her official Facebook page.
Garcetti told the vice president that Philippines was very dear to his heart as his grandfather was assigned in the country during World War II.
Robredo said she invited Garcetti to visit the country before his term ends.
“Ang kuwento sa atin ni mayor, malapit sa kaniyang puso ang Pilipinas, dahil nadestino ang kaniyang lolo sa bansa noong World War II. Inimbitahan rin natin siyang bumisita sa ating bansa bago matapos ang kaniyang termino (The mayor told us that the Philippines is very near to his heart as his grandfather was assigned in the country during World War II. We also invited him to visit the country before his term ends),” she said.
The vice president expressed gratitude to the mayor of Los Angeles and his officials for their warm welcome.
“We thank Mayor Garcetti and the city officials of Los Angeles for the warm welcome extended to us during this short visit. Mabuhay po kayo!”
Also, present during the meeting were Miguel Sanglang, deputy mayor for Budget and Innovation; Jessica Caloza, commissioner, Board of Public Works; Susana Reyes commissioner, Board of Water and Power.
