The Archdiocese of Manila begins the observance of the Seventh Season of Creation today, September 1 until October 6, coinciding with the Fourth World Day of Prayer for Creation.
With the theme “Go and repair my house as you can see lies in ruins,” the first day of the month-long celebration will be marked with a Holy Mass at the Archdiocesan Shrine of Santo Nino de Tondo in Manila at 8 a.m. to be presided by Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick S. Pabillo.
A Walk for Creation will also be held today starting at 4 a.m. at the Liwasang Aurora, Quezon Memorial Circle.
Free workshops on ecobrick and other plastic recycling technologies, urban organic and natural gardening with free vegetable seedlings, solar lamp assembling, and off-grid installations will be held at the shrine’s patio from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There will also be an exhibit of eco-friendly household supplies.
The Prayer for Creation and reflections on Pope Francis’ encyclical on the environment ‘Laudato Si’ will be recited before each mass on Saturday evenings and Sundays of September in parishes
The Manila archdiocese began the observance of the Season of Creation in 2013 in response to the call of the Holy Father Pope Francis to heighten efforts geared toward environmental care and protection. The observance is also commemorated by Christian churches around the world.
