Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea will be part of President Duterte’s delegation to China from August 28 to September 1, prompting the designation of his temporary replacement for the meantime.
Medialdea has designated Senior Deputy Executive Secretary Michael Ong as acting Executive Secretary while he is abroad in the next five days.
“The Executive Secretary will be accompanying the President in China on 28 August 2019 to 01 September 2019,” the Special Order No. 915 read.
“To ensure continuity of government service, it is necessary to designate an Acting Executive Secretary to take care of the day-to-day operations in the Office of the President,” it added.
Medialdea has reminded all government departments and agencies to assist the acting Executive Secretary in the discharge of his functions.
The special order was signed by Medialdea on August 28 by the authority of President Duterte.
President Duterte is scheduled to embark on a visit to China to hold a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on bilateral concerns such as the South China Sea dispute. He is also expected to watch a basketball game of Gilas Pilipinas at the FIBA basketball tournament before returning home on September 1.
