A gun-for-hire suspect, who was also in the local police’s drug watch list, was killed in an encounter with the police in Barangay Niugan in Malabon City Saturday morning.
Police identified the suspect as Richard Delos Reyes, alias “Taguro” or “Mata,” of legal age, construction worker, resident of Barangay Tonsuya, Malabon City and Barangay Tangos, Navotas City.
Delos Reyes was listed as a drug user in the police’s drug watchlist, and was a gun-for-hire suspect with a provisionally dismissed murder case, police said.
Investigation showed that spouses Josefina and Ramir Nual, both residents of the area, sought police assistance after the suspect threatened them and extorted from them.
Police said Delos Reyes became a good friend of Josefina when she and her husband were experiencing marriage problems.
When the police moved to arrest the suspect, he drew out his gun and engaged the police in a firefight, where he sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
The suspect was rushed to Ospital ng Malabon but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Recovered from the crime scene were five caliber .38 bullets. Five sachets of suspected shabu and a digital scale were also retrieved from Delos Reyes’ wallet.
Investigation is still ongoing.
