Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Commissioner Rowena Guanzon believes Duterte Youth partylist first nominee Ronald Cardema is distracting the public from the real issue that he is disqualified to sit as representative of a youth sector by making all the claims against her.

“He is distracting us from the issue that he is disqualified to sit as representative, as congressman of a youth sector. He can cry all he wants. He can even accuse me of murder but will the people believe him?” she told ANC Friday.

“The fact will show that I objected to Cardema’s substitution on May 12 replacing his wife because he is disqualified,” added Guanzon.

Cardema earlier accused Guanzon of trying to extort money and secure political favors from Duterte Youth in exchange of a favorable decision for the organization which the latter already denied.

The former youth commissioner said they are also eyeing to file an impeachment complaint against Guanzon.

In the interview, the poll official also dared Cardema to name the lawmaker who allegedly acted as her emissary.

“I have many congresswoman friends so I dare him to name her in an impeachment complaint because that is the proper venue instead of lying to the public in trying to get sympathy,” Guanzon said.

She asked the public not to believe in Cardema’s lies and even urged them to just turn their television or radio off whenever he is on.

“Don’t believe Cardema because he is doing all of these things to achieve sympathy, support from the president, gain support for his impeachment complaint,” said Guanzon.

“The best thing to do when he is on tv is [to] turn it off. When he is on radio turn off your radio….you should stop listening to this guy because he is lying, overaged, trying hard pretender,” she added.

The Comelec First Division, where Guanzon is a member, earlier declared Cardema as ineligible for being overaged since, under the law, a youth sector party-list representative must be between 25 to 30 years old.

The group then submitted a new set of nominees to the poll body with Cardema and his wife Ducielle as first and second nominees, respectively.

Cardema’s camp also submitted a motion seeking a reversal of the decision of the Comelec First Division. In his motion, he insisted that he is not overaged since Duterte Youth is a multi-sectoral party and not solely for the youth sector.
