President Duterte is planning to shift his anti-corruption campaign to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) following the housecleaning of the Bureau of Customs (BoC)

In his visit to Romblon Wednesday, the President bared that the BIR will be next on his anti-corruption radar after lamenting that some revenue examiners might be involved in irregularities.

“Ang corruption sa itaas kaya dito ko binabantayan. May corrupt sa baba. Of course it affects a lot of Filipinos, checkpoint, customs, BIR. Ngayon sunod BIR [Corruption is at the upper level, I’m watching over that. Some say there’s corruption at the low level too. Of course it affects Filipinos, checkpoint, customs, BIR. Now, BIR will be next],” he said during the launch of a solar power project in Romblon.

Duterte said he would propose reforms in the country’s tax system to eliminate opportunities for extortion and other forms of corruption. He claimed that some revenue examiners allegedly extort money from taxpayers to lower its tax assessment or address tax deficiencies.

“Sasabihin niya magbigay ka ng ganito pero ok we will asses you at P5 million bigay mo sa amin P2 million 3 ibayad mo ganun [He will tell you to pay a certain amount, ‘we will asses you at P5 million. Give us the P2 million and you’ll pay P3 million instead’],” Duterte said.

“Ang nabubusog diyan examiners,” he added.

Frustrated with widespread corruption in the bureaucracy, Duterte meantime has pledged to “change the government” before his term ends. He said he would never leave the country “in shambles” as he vowed to weed out corrupt public servants.

“Alam mo ano ang gusto kong gawin bago ako mag-alis? Baka matakot kayo. Sabihin ko lang aalis na ako, aalis talaga ako. Bigyan lang ninyo ako ng limang araw [You know what I want to do before I leave? You might be frightened. I will leave, I will really leave. Just give me five days],” he said.

“Do not fuck with me for one week, I will change government,” he added.

Duterte made clear that he was not trying to scare the public but he might eventually to show his last card.

“I will not leave the Philippines in shambles. Hindi ako papayag [I will not allow it]. Hindi ako papayag na at one time Rodrigo Duterte passed the presidency,” he said.

He then dropped hints that he might fire more people and abolish some agencies during his final week in office.

“Pero p*** i*** pag nakita ko , hihiritan ko talaga kayo. maghihirit ako. Magtatapon ako last card ko. baka yang card na hindi lang king or queen, alas talaga yan. Give me two months. sabihin ko kayo, ito abolish this office, wala na kayo [But son of a b*tch, if I see, I will really hit you back. I’ll throw my last card, it may not just be a king or queen, it is really an ace. Give me two months. I’ll tell you to abolish this or that office, you’re gone],” he added.
