Voters in the National Capital Region (NCR), who want to register, should check the satellite registration activities of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) this month.
The poll body is conducting satellite registration activities nationwide to bring the registration process closer to the people and to maximize registration turnout in connection with the May 11, 2020 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls.
“It is our way of reaching out to every single Filipino citizen eligible to register but cannot go to their local COMELEC offices due to schedule or travel constraints,” COMELEC Spokesperson James Jimenez said in a statement.
Based on the schedule posted by the Comelec on their Facebook page, the satellite registration will be held in the following dates and venues:
August 22, special registration for women at the Marikina City Hall (1st and 2nd District); Aug 23, San Isidro Barangay Hall (1st District Makati);Aug 23, Rincon Barangay Hall (1st District Valenzuela City); Aug 23 to 24, Ilang-Ilang Covered Court (2nd District Quezon City); Aug 24, Camarin Residences Brgy 175 (1st District Caloocan City); Aug 24 Martirez del’ 96 Brgy Hall (Municipality of Pateros).
Voter applicants may register in these venues from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The poll body earlier directed all election officers nationwide to conduct at least one satellite registration of voters in their locality during the registration period, which is from August 1, 2019 to September 30, 2019.
The Comelec said all types of applications will be accepted in satellite registration, including applications for registration, transfer of registration record, change/correction of entries, reactivation of registration record, inclusion of registration record and reinstatement of name in the list of voters.
Based on Comelec Resolution No. 10549, any Filipino citizen who is not yet a registered voter, who will be at least fifteen (15) years of age on May 11, 2020, and residing in the barangay for at least six (6) months on or before Election Day is eligible to register.
The poll body said registered voters as of the May 13, 2019 midterm elections need not apply.
“For purposes of the SK elections, those who will be at least fifteen (15) but not more than thirty (30) years of age on Election Day shall be included in the list of those who may vote for SK candidates,” the Comelec said.
