The Philippine National Police (PNP) has designated a new head of its Highway Patrol Group (HPG), a police unit that supports the move to ease traffic, especially in Metro Manila.
Brig. Gen. Eliseo Cruz was moved to the HPG in the latest reshuffle that affected four more senior police officials.
Cruz will vacate the Southern Police District where he got his first star.
He replaced Brig. Gen. Roberto Fajardo who was designated as head the Civil Security Group (CSG) that was vacated by Maj. Gen. Reynaldo Biay.
Biay, on the other hand, was named as the new head of the Directorate for Research and Development.
Brig. Gen. Johnson Almazan, who used to be the head of the Directorate for Integrated Police Operations (DIPO) for Visayas, was named as head of the Eastern Police District.
Almazan was replaced by Col. Alexander Sampaga as the executive director of the DIPO Visayas.
“This reorganization was approved today (Wednesday) by the Chief PNP (Gen. Oscar Albayalde) upon the recommendation of the PNP Senior Officers Placement and Promotion Board (SOPPB),” said PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac.
“The latest rounds of reorganization occupying key positions were prompted by the recent retirements of some PNP officers,” he added.
The new designations, according to Banac, will take effect on Thursday.
