The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has expressed readiness to assist Hong Kong-bound overseas Filipino workers that are stranded at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
In his Twitter account, OWWA Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac said affected OFWs may call the OWWA Hotline 1348 to seek assistance.
“Sa mga OFWs po na apektado sa sitwasyon sa Hongkong, lalo na po ang mga posibleng stranded sa NAIA, tawag lang po sa OWWA hotline 1348,” he said.
“May mga OWWA counter din po sa NAIA terminals 1, 2, and 3 na maaring malapitan,” added Cacdac.
To note, some flights were affected due to the anti-government protests in Hong Kong.
Last week, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said there is no decision yet on the mulled deployment ban for OFWs bound for Hong Kong.
He said they are still waiting for the assessment of the Department of Foreign Affairs as well as the periodic reports of their Labor Attaché in Hong Kong.
“If the situation worsens, they would have to give us a periodic report since a possible deployment ban is under consideration. But right now, there is no increase in alert level. So deployment remains normal,” Bello said.
