In a statement, the Chinese Embassy also asked the Philippine government to continue to take “concrete and effective measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests” of its citizens in the country.

The Chinese Embassy said it was closely monitoring the investigation into the incident that happened on Friday morning where a Chinese national identified as Yang Kang, wearing handcuffs, reportedly jumped from the sixth floor of a building in Pamplona, Las Piñas.

As of this writing, authorities have yet to establish the identity of the employer who reportedly handcuffed and detained the victim.

“The Chinese Embassy urged relevant departments of the Philippine Government to bring the perpetrators to justice through an objective, fair and thorough investigation, and continue to take concrete and effective measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens in the Philippines,” the Embassy said in the statement.

Malacanang earlier expressed alarm over the incident and said it will not allow nor tolerate any kind of abuse inflicted on any foreign national in the Philippines.

“The Chinese Embassy highly appreciates the Palace’s call to put a stop to these illegal acts, as well as the commitment to protecting the safety of Chinese citizens in the Philippines,” the Chinese diplomatic mission in Manila added.
