Just because it’s the day President Rodrigo Duterte delivers his State of the Nation Address (SONA) doesn’t mean that all classes in Metro Manila have to be suspended.
In his Facebook post, Manila Public Information Office (PIO) Julius Leonen posted: “Quezon City lang po ang nagsu-suspend ng klase dahil sa SONA, okay?”
Leonen told The Manila Bulletin, his office has been receiving numerous queries through Facebook if classes were going to be suspended in Manila today due to the SONA.
“Over the weekend, we received heaps of messages from students who were asking if we would suspend classes. ‘Yung iba po, sabi nila sana i-suspend kasi may quiz or exam sila,” he said.
However, he explained only Quezon City suspends classes whenever the President holds a SONA at the House of Representatives which is also located in Quezon City.
“Historically, only Quezon City suspends classes in all levels for both public and private schools in line with the President’s State of the Nation Address,” Leonen said.
Meanwhile, the Manila official told students “to study hard and pass their assignments or projects on time.”
“Our MTPB personnel are on stand by po in case of possible heavy traffic situations to ensure a smooth vehicular traffic,” he noted.
