This year’s menu for President Duterte’s fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) will be a fusion of Filipino and Spanish cuisines.
House Press and Public Affairs Bureau director Rica dela Cuesta said the Task Force SONA 2019 has prepared a “merienda cena” buffet for 900 guests , including members of the diplomatic corps, former Presidents, and Cabinet secretaries.
The merienda buffet, which will be consisted of finger foods, will be served at the South Wing Lobby of the House of Representatives after President Duterte delivers his SONA.
“We cannot invite all. The merienda cena will be served for our VIP guests, the members of the diplomatic community, Cabinet secretaries,” Dela Cuesta said in a phone interview.
She said the House will spend P675,000 for the food, that will be catered by Via Mare, which has been catering the SONA since 2017.
The menu for this year’s SONA is consisted of galantina (melba toast or crackes); empanaditas(tuna, laing or beef); crispy triangles of flaked chicken adobo and mushrooms; and grilled pan de sal with Laguna cheese, beef humba, and Vigan longaniza.
Crispy palabok, fish sticks and champinones ajillo, fresh lumpia ubod in pouch, ensaladang alimango at mangga, croquetas de bacalao, inasal na manok, and mango and strawberry fruit tartlettes will also be served.
Also part of the SONA menu will be bibingka galapong and puto bumbong, and turrones de saba.
For drinks, the guests can choose House blend iced tea, lemonada, coffee or tea.
Last year’s menu for SONA was also a mix of Filipino and Spanish foods. In 2017, native delicacies from Mindanao and Davao City were served.
House Acting Secretary-General Dante Roberto Maling said the House allocated some P4.7 million for President’s SONA, which will be lower than last year’s budget.
He said this year’s SONA budget will be P200,000 less than last year’s P4.9 million appropriations and will be spent for the “usual expenses”, including preparation materials and food.
