TNVS operators, drivers to hold another protest caravan on July 12

Ride-sharing operators and drivers are set to stage another transport caravan protest Friday, July 12, to condemn the outcome of their dialogue with officials of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) last Tuesday, July 9, 2019.

Laban TNVS – an umbrella group of transport network vehicle service operators and drivers nationwide – and commuters group Defend Job Philippines will hold the protest caravan on Friday “to express outrage against the result of LTFRB’s dialogue” earlier this week.

“This is a show of indignation over the outcome of the recent ‘dialogue’ which Laban TNVS refer to as ‘LTFRB’s monologue’ that brought nothing beneficial to the demands of TNVS partners,” the group said in a statement.

This is also in time for the agency’s expected announcement of its decision on the demands of TNVS providers to stop apprehending ride-hailing cars without fully-complied requirements, to accept hatchback vehicles, to scrap bank conformity requirements, among others.

In Tuesday’s dialogue, LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra III insisted that allowing “colorum” TNVS providers to operate may cause problems in their “anti-colorum drive.”

But he said the Board will decide within the week if they will continue to apprehend drivers with incomplete registrations.

Members of Laban TNVS expressed dismay with the dialogue initiated by the LTFRB, saying nothing concrete was resolved and addressed during the almost four-hour meeting.

“During the dialogue, Board Chairman [Martin] Delgra and the whole LTFRB leadership only exposed their lack of heart and consideration to thousands of TNVS operators and drivers who have been working hard for their families,” Laban TNVS said.

The dialogue was held after the ride-sharing operators and drivers staged its first transport holiday last Monday to protest the so-called “pahirap policies” of the LTFRB, including the “problematic requirements and poor and slow processing” of TNVS applications.

Laban TNVS said that in Tuesday’s rally, more than 500 vehicles with black ribbons and placards will blow their horns as sign of protest during the caravan from the People Power Monument, going to the LTFRB main office and to the House of Representatives.

A short program will also be held at the government agencies to reiterate their demands.

The protest caravan, which will end at the House of Representatives, is also a way to appeal again to President Duterte to intervene and resolve issues in the LTFRB and the TNVS community in time with his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 22, the group explained.
