BATANGAS— A suspected drug pusher was killed while a four-year-old boy was hurt during a drug bust that turned into a hostage situation in Lipa City Thursday afternoon.

A report from the Batangas provincial police said a team from the Tanauan City Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) went to Barangay Poblacion 1 in Tanauan to set up a drug bust for Christopher Nones Javier, described by police as a shabu dealer.

When Javier sensed that the supposed buyer was a policeman, he got on a motorcycle and sped to Sto. Tomas town.

The team traced Javier to a motel in Barangay San Miguel, Sto. Tomas, but he managed to elude his pursuers. They finally cornered him at his relatives’ place in St. Joseph Homes Subdivision, Lipa City.

Lt. Col. Jack Angog Tanauan police chief, said that as the team closed in Javier shot Master Sergeant Dante Robles, but the bullet failed to penetrate the policeman’s armored vest.

Javier then took a woman relative and her 4-year-old son as hostages.

Angog said the suspect shot the boy in the left arm before he was gunned down by the authorities.

Javier and the child were taken to Metro Lipa Medical Center, where Javier

was declared dead on arrival.

The boy was treated for his wound.
