To reach more voters, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) will hold satellite registrations in schools and malls when it resumes the voter registration on August 1.
“COMELEC will be using satellite registration venues like malls and schools to ensure that the commission reaches out to new voter registrant,” Radyo Comelec said in their Twitter account @radyocomelec.
It added that the two-month voter registration is open for: New Voters (Sangguniang Kabataan & Regular Voters), Transfer of Registration and Reactivation of Registration as per Director Teopisto Elnas, Jr. of the COMELEC Election and Barangay Affairs Department.
The poll body earlier announced that the voter registration will run from August 1 to September 30, 2019, inclusive of Saturdays and holidays.
Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez said they expect around 2 million new voters to register during the said period.
He also advised Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) voters that already turned 18 years old that they no longer need to enlist anew for the regular list of voters.
“Their names will automatically be transferred from the SK List of Voters to the regular List of Voters,” said Jimenez.
The last voter registration period was held from July 2, 2018 to September 29, 2018, before it was suspended again to give way to the May 2019 midterm polls.
The Barangay and SK elections are scheduled to be held on the second Monday of May 2020.
