A car-carrier vessel from Singapore caught fire off Reed Bank over the weekend, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Monday.
Information from the Coast Guard’s foreign counterpart reported to the Philippines that MV Diamond Highway, a car carrier operated by K-line, caught fire and has been drifting off the country’s waters since Saturday night.
According to Captain Armand Balilo, Coast Guard spokesman, a report came in at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, saying that the vessel was on fire while it was on its way to Batangas.
Its owner tried to contact the vessel but to no avail, prompting them to seek assistance from the PCG.
Balilo said the Coast Guard had already dispatched BRP Cabra for search and rescue operation as well as to help in putting out the fire.
Yesterday, the 25 crew members of the vessel were reportedly rescued by the passing bulk carrier Canupos Leader en route to Thailand.
Balilo said further information about the incident has yet to reach the Coast Guard as BRP Cabra was still off the sea for the rescue operations.
