Security guard arrested for indiscriminate firing in Pasig
A security guard, who police said is an army reservist, was arrested when he allegedly fired a gun in Pasig City Sunday.
Pasig City Police said suspect Mark Anthony Garcia, 39, was arrested along Sto. Niño Street in Barangay Rosario at around 4:45 p.m.
Probers revealed that Michael Mora, a barangay security officer, has received a report that Sunday afternoon regarding a group of men creating trouble in the area.
Mora told probers that one of them, later identified as Garcia, fired a handgun, police said.
Members of Pasig City Police were then dispatched and placed the suspect under arrest.
The responding policemen confiscated from his possession a caliber .45 pistol loaded with eight live ammunition.
A fired cartridge case of caliber .45 was also recovered at the scene, police said.
Garcia was brought to Pasig City Police headquarters where appropriate charges were prepared against him. (Jhon Aldrin Casinas)
Fifteen sachets of shabu seized in buy-bust op, five others arrested
Fifteen sachets of illegal drugs were seized from five drug suspects including a 15-year-old boy who was arrested in separate buy-busts in Quezon City in the past 24 hours.
Anti-narcotics personnel of La Loma Police Station (PS-1) nabbed Jhun Cuyag, 28, and his 15-year-old companion, in a drug sting at Don Pepe Street in Barangay Sto. Domingo around 1:30 a.m. Monday.
Police seized from the duo a total of seven sachets of dried marijuana leaves.
In Barangay Vasra, officers of Masambong Police Station (PS-2) Drug Enforcement Unit also arrested in a buy-bust Abraham Castillo Jr., 40, and Marvin Mantelo, 31, at Fisheries Street at about 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Six sachets of shabu and medium size of dried marijuana leaves were recovered from the suspects.
Meanwhile, members of Novaliches Police Station (PS-4) said the arrested suspect, Agapito Peliño, 48, a resident of Barangay Gulod, was initially arrested for smoking in public place.
A police report showed that police officers were conducting Oplan Galugad at San Ignacio Street in Barangay Gulod about 12:30 a.m. when they spotted the Peliño smoking outside.
The suspect was accosted and when frisked, he yielded a sachet of shabu resulting in his arrest.
Arrested suspects are now under police custody and were charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
While the minor was turned over to QC-Social Services and Development Department (QC-SSDD) for proper intervention. (Alexandria San Juan)
Seven houses destroyed in Pasig fire
Seven houses were razed down by a fire that struck a residential area in Pasig City Monday morning, rendering at least 17 families homeless, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said.
The fire that engulfed houses, which were mostly made out of light materials, was reported at around 9:40 a.m. in Ilugin Phase-1, Barangay Pinagbuhatan, said Fire Insp. Teodoro Trinidad, Pasig City BFP Intelligence and investigation section chief.
Fire officials then raised the alarm level to second alarm 10 minutes later.
Over 30 minutes after it was reported, the blaze was declared under control by the BFP and was eventually put out at around 10:30 a.m., Trinidad said.
He added that the fire has an estimated damage of about P70,000.

Father nabbed for using son as a drug courier in Pasig
A father, who allegedly used his 16-year-old son as a drug courier, was apprehended during a buy-bust operation in Pasig City on Sunday night.
Police identified the suspect as Edwin Ariola, 38, of Barangay Palatiw, Pasig City.
Members of Eastern Police District -Drug Enforcement Unit (EPD-DDEU) arrested Ariola after handing shabu to an undercover policeman inside their house at Evangelista Compound in Barangay Palatiw around 7 p.m.
The son of the suspect even reportedly tried to stop the police from apprehending his father, probers said.
When the minor was frisked, policemen found two plastic sachets of shabu from his pocket.
Seized from Ariola was around 30 grams of shabu placed in plastic sachets.
The operation was conducted weeks after police conducted surveillance in their area. Cops said that they learned the illegal activity of Ariola from their informants.
EPD-DDEU said Ariola is listed Pasig Police Station’s Drug watch-list.
The father was held at the Pasig headquarters’ detention cell while the minor was turned over to the Pasig City Social Welfare and Development Office. (Jel Santos)
