ILOILO CITY—The call for justice is mounting after two teachers—a husband and a wife—were killed by a reckless driver in this city.
Students and teachers of Lapaz II Elementary School held a memorial Monday for their principal Jomarie Osano and his wife Alnie Dinah Pet-Osano, who was also a teacher of Ticud Elementary School.
With raised fists, students and teachers chanted: “Hustisya para kay Sir Joe and Ma’am Alnie! (Justice for Sir Joe and Ma’am Alnie!)”.
The Department of Education (DepEd-Division of Iloilo City) also directed schools to fly the Philippine flag in half mast in honor of two public school teachers.
The Osano couple was fatally hit by an overspeeding sports car last June 15 while crossing a pedestrian lane along Diversion Road.
The fatal incident caused outrage among Iloilo’s citizenry after driver June Paul Valencia was released hours after killing the Osano couple when he posted a Php 60,000 bail.
The outrage grew after the victims’ family confirmed that the Valencia family offered a measly Php 2 million for settlement.
Valencia, who is only in the city for vacation from the United States, will be facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide.
Meanwhile, Iloilo City Councilor Joshua Alim is calling the city government to fully implement the speed limit ordinance he authored.
