ILOILO CITY—A husband and wife, who were both teachers, were killed after getting hit by a sports car Saturday morning in this city.
The Mandurriao police station identified the victims as Jomarie Osano and his wife Alnie Dinah Pet-Osano, the school principal of La Paz II Elementary School and teacher of Ticud Elementary School respectively.
The Osano couple was crossing a pedestrian lane along Diversion Road past 6 a.m. when they were hit by a Mazda sports car driven by June Paul Valencia, a 32-year-old who is reportedly on vacation from the United States.
Police Staff Sergeant Rey Amihan, the traffic investigator, said witnesses saw the top down car speeding away after hitting the couple.
Allan Calunsod, who was driving a pick-up truck, chased the Mazda car and honked the vehicle’s horn until it stopped. It was Calunsod who took Valencia to the nearest police station.
The Osano couple was crossing the pedestrian lane and was most likely on their way to the Iloilo Esplanade for a morning exercise. Both were wearing athletic clothing.
After news of the couple’s passing, tributes and cry for justice circulated.
“My heart goes out to the bereaved family. These good teachers were partners in our sports development programs here in the city of Iloilo and we’re deeply saddened by the tragic news,” said Mayor Jose Espinosa III in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) will lodge a case of reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide against Valencia, who is an American citizen.
