BACOLOD CITY – Students of the Bacolod City College (BCC) no longer have to pay tuition starting this year.

Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya said he was informed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) last June 10 that BCC is one of the local colleges or universities in the country with free tuition under the Universal Access to Quality Education Act.

Last May 30, CHED issued a memorandum signed by Carmelita Yadao-Sison, officer-in-charge Executive Director IV, of the Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education.

“It has been a dream ever since that every family in Bacolod should have a college graduate,” Gasataya said.

“We are thankful to President Duterte that this program will help thousands of family nationwide,” he said.

The school will facilitate the reimbursement of students who have already enrolled.

Gasataya, vice chairperson of the House Committee on Higher and Technical Education, said CHED will hold a meeting with the school presidents, including BCC school head to discuss the guidelines.

With free tuition, he expects a rise in BCC’s enrolment.

In 2017, Gasataya and other local officials and personnel of BCC facilitated its accreditation with CHED for the free tuition program.

The following year, CHED approved the accreditation.
