1,000 artists converge in Davao for MB Sketchfest 2019

By Antonio Colina IV

DAVAO CITY – Around 1,000 up-and-coming artists from different regions of Mindanao are expected to converge here for the MB Sketchfest 2019 slated on June 22 at the Annex Event Center of SM City Davao.

The contest will highlight the “Fiestas and Colors of the Philippines” as its theme, reflective of the vibrant cultures, and colorful traditions and celebrations of the Filipinos in different parts of the country.

“We are hoping that MB Sketchfest in Davao will be more successful this year. We are inviting our artists to join. We hope to see more Dabawenyos from outside Davao this year,” Cindy Dumapias, marketing officer of the Manila Bulletin-Davao Branch, said.

The Davao leg of the Sketchfest last year attracted 790 artists. The contest will also be held in two other locations: Cebu on July 27 at the Mountain Wing Atrium of SM Seaside Cebu in Cebu City; and the Luzon leg on August 26 at the Music Hall, SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

Sonny Coloma, Manila Bulletin Executive Vice President, said the company “firmly supports the propagation of Filipino culture by focusing on the unique and colorful festivals that are celebrated in the various islands of the Philippines.”

The categories are kiddie (12 years old and below), junior (13 to 18 years old), and senior (19 years old and older). Cash prizes await winners of the sketchfest from each category.

For senior category, the 1st placer will bring home P30,000, 2nd placer P20,000, and 3rd placer P10,000. For junior category, 1st placer will get P15,000, 2nd placer P10,000, and 3rd placer P5,000. For kiddie category, 1st placer will get P5,000, 2nd placer P3,000, and 3rd placer P2,000.

Participants may pre-register online at sketchfest2019.mb.com.ph until June 15 for the Davao leg, July 20 for the Cebu leg, and August 19 for the Luzon leg.
