Outgoing Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista and his successor Vice-Mayor Joy Belmonte will lead other officials in today’s celebration of the 121st Philippine Independence Day at the city hall grounds.
Members of the city council and other department heads are also expected to grace the event.
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) will welcome the guest of honor and lead in the hoisting of the Philippine flag while the Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) will ensure the orderliness of the wreath-laying ceremony and smooth flow of traffic in the compound.
Bautista said various ceremonies and programs organized by the Quezon City Tourism Department with the theme: “Kalayaan 2019: Tapang ng Bayan, Malasakit sa Mamamayan’’ held today to promote nationalism.
With the scheduled programs, Bautista hopes to inculcate the sense of patriotism to the public and spread the knowledge about the country’s rich history.
He noted the public especially the youth should be aware of the country’s historical background where the country’s ancestors fought numerous battles risking their lives and limbs to gain the country’s independence.
Cultural performances from QC Teachers’ Chorale and E. Rodriguez, Jr. High School Company will also be held during the event.
